Leader of Virginia Sex Trafficking Ring Sentenced to 35 Years in Prison

A man who was at the center of a violent trafficking ring that sold women and girls for sex throughout Virginia has been sentenced to 35 years in prison.

Michael Maynes Jr., of Spring Lake, North Carolina, led a sex trafficking organization known as "Horse Block Pimpin." 

Maynes prostituted 55 women and girls in Alexandria, Richmond and Charlottsville, according to prosecutors.

Last December, a 14-year-old Maine girl stood before a judge and faced the woman who sold her for sex to numerous men. She described the agony she had endured. Was life not worth living? she asked.
She didn’t talk about being repeatedly raped by strangers in Bangor and Boston hotels. 

With the words of someone far older, she shared how it changed the way she saw herself, stole her sense of self-respect and self-love, and made her feel less than human.

She talked about how she wanted to preserve her sanity to make sure what she’d been through wouldn’t happen to others.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Five people are charged with selling drugs and pimping a group of prostitutes that included a Cleveland teenager who is now missing, according to court records.

Cleveland police arrested four people at two Cleveland homes Thursday, but continue to search for both the 16-year-old girl and the man accused of pimping her, 18-year-old Bobby Nix II.

Third District vice detectives on Friday filed complaints charging Sarah Hogue-Wood, Spencer Wilkerson, Valerie Love and Nix's mother Muslimah Muwwakkli with a combination of drug trafficking and promoting prostitution charges.

Former Local Attorney Arrested In Alabama On Charges Of Human Trafficking

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WRDW/WAGT) – A former Augusta attorney has been arrested in Alabama on charges of human trafficking.

Edward Ray “Chip” Dillard, 51, now an attorney in Alabama was arrested on seven counts of human trafficking in the second degree, four counts of conspiracy to commit human trafficking in the second-degree, one count of sexual abuse in the second-degree, two counts of making terroristic threats and one count of intimidating a witness.

He was arrested along with a Florence, Ala. man, Timothy Wylie Staggs, 83, who is facing charges on five counts of human trafficking in the second-degree and four counts of conspiracy to commit human trafficking.

128 Suspects Arrested In Florida On Human Trafficking & Child Predator Charges

Winter Haven, Florida – Polk County Sheriff, Grady Judd, will brief the media this afternoon regarding a large scale, six-day long undercover operation targeting Human Trafficking and Child Predators.

At an undercover location in Polk County, Polk County Sheriff’s Office undercover detectives and Lakeland Police officers conducted a six-day long undercover investigation beginning Tuesday, May 31, 2016, through Sunday, June 5, 2016, which targeted Internet crimes associated with human trafficking and child exploitation.

A total of 128 suspects were arrested.  Suspects came from throughout Florida to include Miami, Orlando, Kissimmee, Altamonte Springs, Winter Park, Tampa, Lakeland, Davenport, Sanford, Merritt Island, Ocala, Oviedo, Tarpon Springs, St. Petersburg, Mulberry, Bartow, and Polk City; some were visiting the area on vacation or business from Illinois, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

Adam LaRoche Details Experience Rescuing Underage Sex Slaves

"I was sick,” he says. “I was thinking about my kids and then thinking about the hundreds of thousands of parents who are searching for their 12-year-old daughters.”

LaRoche and Boyer wore hidden cameras, doing undercover work to help rescue underage sex slaves. According to Keown, the pair worked through a nonprofit called the Exodus Road. Sex Trafficking 'Staggering' In Illegal Latin American Gold Mines: Researchers

BOGOTA (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - The scale of sex trafficking around illegal gold mines in parts of Latin America is "staggering," and thousands of people working there are prey to labor exploitation by organized crime groups, a think-tank said on Wednesday.

"When these mines are directly controlled by criminal groups, or in areas controlled by organized crime, there is an elevated risk of human trafficking," the report by the Geneva-based organization said.

"In Colombia and Peru particularly, and to a lesser extent in the other countries studied, our research uncovered numerous instances of labor trafficking and exploitation, sex trafficking and child labor."
