Texas Man Sentenced To Prison In Human Trafficking Case

A Houston man arrested last year in connection with a human trafficking investigation in Wichita Falls is sentenced to 156 months in federal prison for promoting prostitution, cyber stalking and firearms charges.

29-year-old Joshua William Jackson was arrested in Wichita Falls in April in 2016 after SWAT and Homeland Security Officers raided a home at the corner of 9th and Kemp.

According to the federal arrest affidavit, we obtained ATF Agents found two handguns in his bedroom.

ATF Officers also say the North Texas Trafficking Task Force told them a woman accused Jackson of using force and coercion to get her to engage in prostitution around Texas.

71 Arrested In Utah In Anti-Human Trafficking Operation

SALT LAKE CITY — Human trafficking in Utah is real, says state Attorney General Sean Reyes, even if prosecutors don't always charge a person with that crime.

Wednesday, Reyes, along with top members of his staff were joined by police chiefs and investigators from across the state to announce the results of two recent operations.

In April and May, the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force participated in Operation Broken Heart III, an operation that involved 61 ICAC teams nationwide. More than 1,300 arrests were made nationwide, including 71 in Utah, said Leo Lucey, chief of investigations at the attorney general's office.

A San Francisco police officer under investigation for possible connections to an Oakland Police Department sex trafficking scandal has been put on modified duty and transferred from his station, the San Francisco Examiner has learned.

Officer Rodger Ponce De Leon was transferred on chief’s orders from the Northern Station on June 16. His new duties are unknown, but he has been assigned to the San Francisco Police Department’s’ Operations Center, which, sources say, is one of several locations officers are sent when they are not permitted to have contact with the public.

Ponce De Leon was transferred as a result of this investigation, according to two sources with links to SFPD. Sources also told the Examiner that Ponce De Leon had his gun taken from him at Northern Station before he was transferred.

Sex Trafficking 'Staggering' In Illegal Latin American Gold Mines: Researchers

BOGOTA (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - The scale of sex trafficking around illegal gold mines in parts of Latin America is "staggering," and thousands of people working there are prey to labor exploitation by organized crime groups, a think-tank said on Wednesday.

"When these mines are directly controlled by criminal groups, or in areas controlled by organized crime, there is an elevated risk of human trafficking," the report by the Geneva-based organization said.

"In Colombia and Peru particularly, and to a lesser extent in the other countries studied, our research uncovered numerous instances of labor trafficking and exploitation, sex trafficking and child labor."
