Huge Central Texas property near Rockdale sells for $240 million

A North Texas-based investment group has paid $240 million for a more than 31,000-acre property in Central Texas.

Alcoa Corp., a Pennsylvania-based industrial corporation, was the seller of the former Rockdale industrial site in Milam and Lee counties, about 45 miles northeast of Austin, between Austin and College Station. The property was formerly used for an aluminum smelter and coal mining but was restored with lakes and farmland.

Texas Moves - Texas reaches $290 million settlement with Johnson & Johnson in nationwide opioid case

“We’re not done going after these other companies,” Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said. Overdose deaths related to opioids increased by 30% nationally in 2020.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced a $290 million settlement agreement Tuesday with pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson over what the state claims were deceptive marketing tactics that contributed to the ongoing opioid crisis.

In July, he announced Texas had joined a $26 billion multistate opioid settlement with McKesson, Cardinal Health and AmerisourceBergen, as well as Johnson & Johnson. Paxton said Tuesday that the state expects to receive $1.2 billion from the three other companies, bringing the state’s total to $1.5 billion.

 

Texas female deputies in human trafficking task force accuse superiors of sexual exploitation, abuse

 

Houston (CNN)Three former and current Harris County deputy constables allege they were being sexually exploited, molested and harassed by their superiors while assigned to a human trafficking task force, according to a federal civil lawsuit filed Monday.

The female officers -- Liz Gomez, Marissa Sanchez and Felecia McKinney -- claim they were rookie deputies when they were "handpicked" for undercover operations, "molested and traumatized by their intoxicated male commanding officers for their own sexual gratification," the lawsuit says.

And when the deputies reported the abuse to supervisors, the lawsuit alleges they were ridiculed, retaliated against and reassigned to less prestigious duties.

German Police Shut Down Major Darknet Child Sex Abuse Platform - This is Not the Spencer Tracy Mickey Rooney's "Boystown"

After months of investigation, German police have busted the "Boystown" child sex abuse platform with over 400,000 members. Four German men have been arrested.

Authorities in Germany managed to take down one of the world's biggest child sex abuse platforms following a large-scale investigation which led to several arrests in mid-April, a police statement confirmed on Monday.

The platform "Boystown" was active since at least June 2019 and had a membership of over 400,000. It was only accessible via the so-called darknet.

Four German citizens between the ages of 40 and 64 were detained in relation to the case, three on suspicion of working as administrators for the platform — one of whom was arrested in Paraguay. Another man was taken in under suspicion of being a registered member and the platform's most active user, having contributed more than 3,500 posts.
